Squad Anti-Cheat

Kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat since 2015, licensed servers whose admins must give a reason for a ban, and a team game where people notice everything.

In plain EnglishThis page explains the anti-cheat that protects Squad - the system that tries to catch and ban cheaters. It covers how strict that system is and how cheats try to stay hidden from it. No cheat is ever 100% safe, so always check a product's status before you buy.

What anti-cheat does Squad use?

Squad uses Easy Anti-Cheat, a kernel-level anti-cheat that loads a Windows driver with deep system access. Caught cheaters get an account ban, and our database rates its detection strength low. The guide below covers how it detects, what a ban really costs and what kind of build survives.

Squad is Offworld’s 100-player tactical shooter. It replaced VAC with Easy Anti-Cheat in December 2015, during early access, and turned VAC off on its servers in 2016. Its Steam page lists Easy Anti-Cheat as a kernel-level anti-cheat.

Offworld still maintains it: in June 2025 it shipped a client-side update to the anti-cheat on its own, and it says EAC is what lets Squad run on Linux through Proton. Squad also blocks ReShade, a call it made with EAC in 2018.

How Easy Anti-Cheat works in Squad

EAC loads a driver with the game and watches for injected code, tampered files and known cheats. Because Squad is played on servers run under Offworld’s licence, there is a second layer: server admins who see the match and can kick and ban.

Offworld’s licensing rules shape that layer. A licensed server must give Offworld’s developers and QA admin and debug access, its bans need a valid reason or evidence, and it must give players a way to appeal.

What a Squad ban actually means

Squad’s Code of Conduct allows a temporary or a permanent ban from the game, and treats evading a ban as a further offence. Appeals go to Offworld support by email. No Offworld post mentions hardware bans, so a ban is an account matter and a spoofer is not the usual fix.

A server ban is narrower and keeps you off that server. Licensed servers must state a reason for it and tell you how to appeal.

Detection track record

We rate Squad "Low" on client detection: the anti-cheat is kernel-level, but in a slow, team-based game the larger risk is the people in the match. Squad leaders, commanders and admins see a lot, and they talk.

A player who always finds the enemy first, or kills through smoke at long range, stands out fast in a game built on teamwork and voice chat.

Cheating in Squad safely

Squad fights happen at long range over big maps, and information wins them. Player ESP that shows where the enemy is, and whether a position is held, is worth more than an aimbot. Aim help has to allow for bullet drop at those distances.

Keep it subtle and stay off servers where admins already know your name. The Squad build we keep current is below.

Squad anti-cheat FAQ

Is Squad’s anti-cheat kernel-level?
Yes. Squad’s Steam page lists Easy Anti-Cheat as a kernel-level anti-cheat. Squad has used EAC instead of VAC since December 2015.
Does Squad ban your hardware?
Offworld has not said it does. Its Code of Conduct describes temporary or permanent bans from the game and treats ban evasion as an offence, but does not mention hardware bans.
Can a Squad server admin ban me?
Yes, from their server. Offworld’s licensing rules say those bans need a valid reason or evidence and that servers must give players a way to appeal.
