SCUM Anti-Cheat
BattlEye since May 2025, a server-side Violation Manager, and community servers whose admins set their own rules - and can even run without BattlEye.
In plain EnglishThis page explains the anti-cheat that protects SCUM - the system that tries to catch and ban cheaters. It covers how strict that system is and how cheats try to stay hidden from it. No cheat is ever 100% safe, so always check a product's status before you buy. SCUM uses BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat that loads a Windows driver with deep system access. Caught cheaters get an account ban, and our database rates its detection strength low. The guide below covers how it detects, what a ban really costs and what kind of build survives. What anti-cheat does SCUM use?
SCUM is Gamepires’ open-world survival game. It ran Easy Anti-Cheat until May 2025, when Gamepires switched it to BattlEye. Unusually, its Steam page carries no anti-cheat notice at all, so the switch is documented only in Gamepires’ own announcements.
Much of SCUM is played on community servers, and they matter as much as the anti-cheat: their admins ban through their own ban lists, and a self-hosted server can even be run without BattlEye. BattlEye runs with the game and checks for injected code and known cheats. On the server, Gamepires runs its own Violation Manager, which it keeps updating to detect cheating behaviour better. Since December 2025 some official servers can also require PlaySafe ID, an optional identity check that lets in only players who verified themselves and are not banned there. Gamepires says it is optional and you do not need it to play SCUM. Gamepires has not published how long a BattlEye ban lasts in SCUM. It has not said that bans reach hardware either, so plan as if a ban is permanent for that account. A server ban is separate and only covers that server. Admins keep their own ban lists, and a server can be set to delete banned players when it starts up. We rate SCUM "Low" on client detection. BattlEye is newer here, and Gamepires publishes no ban numbers. The bigger risk on many servers is an admin who watches players and reads the server’s own violation logs. Because rules and enforcement vary so much between servers, the same build can be quietly ignored on one and banned within the hour on another. SCUM rewards information: where other prisoners, puppets and loot are, and whether a base is worth the risk. ESP that answers those questions is worth more than aim in most fights. Learn how strict a server is before you play on it, and keep teleports and other loud features off. The SCUM builds we keep current are below. 2 SCUM builds are on sale right now, listed by how each one runs according to its own description. Official pages for the systems this guide describes.
