ARK: Survival Ascended Anti-Cheat

BattlEye, not Easy Anti-Cheat, by Studio Wildcard’s own patch notes, with anti-mesh checks, tribe wipes and hardware ID bans on the Official Network.

In plain EnglishThis page explains the anti-cheat that protects ARK SA - the system that tries to catch and ban cheaters. It covers how strict that system is and how cheats try to stay hidden from it. No cheat is ever 100% safe, so always check a product's status before you buy.

What anti-cheat does ARK: Survival Ascended use?

ARK: Survival Ascended uses BattlEye, a kernel-level anti-cheat that loads a Windows driver with deep system access. Caught cheaters get a hardware (HWID) ban on top of the account ban, and our database rates its detection strength low. The guide below covers how it detects, what a ban really costs and what kind of build survives.

ARK: Survival Ascended is Studio Wildcard’s rebuild of ARK in Unreal Engine 5. Its anti-cheat is BattlEye. The Steam page carries no anti-cheat notice at all, but Studio Wildcard’s own PC patch notes name BattlEye again and again, including switching it on for Steam Deck the day after the game came out in October 2023.

The rules matter as much as the software. Studio Wildcard’s Code of Conduct covers its Official Network and every BattlEye-protected server. It names ESP and aimbots as hacking, and it even forbids letting a hacker into your tribe.

How BattlEye works in ARK SA

BattlEye runs alongside the game on your PC, and BattlEye describes its own protection as kernel-based. In November 2023 Studio Wildcard temporarily kept Windows clients off official PvP crossplay servers until it had fixed the Windows BattlEye integration.

The game adds checks of its own. It has anti-mesh detection for players inside the map’s geometry (the mesh), which Studio Wildcard keeps tuning. Since August 2025, official servers also stop a player in the mesh from opening storage, which it says should stop cheaters reaching loot from inside. Unofficial servers can switch that check on.

What an ARK SA ban actually means

Breaking the Code of Conduct can cost you your structures, creatures and items, or get your account banned from the Official Network and all BattlEye-protected servers. Hardware bans are part of it: the code says that coming back on another account after a hardware ID (HWID) ban brings another HWID ban.

BattlEye bans must be appealed to BattlEye, and Studio Wildcard lists hacking, exploiting, helping hackers and meshing among the bans that cannot be appealed at all. It also wipes whole tribes: in February 2026 it wiped about 100 tribes from the Official Network for abusing an exploit at scale. Its patch notes tell a global ban apart from a ban on one server.

Detection track record

We rate ARK: Survival Ascended "Low" on client detection. We found no ban counts for cheating in Studio Wildcard’s Steam posts, and most of the enforcement it reports is about exploits such as meshing rather than aim or ESP.

Its bounty scheme shows the split. Studio Wildcard pays for reports of serious hacks and exploits on official servers, but not for aimbots, ESP or speed hacks. In January 2024 it also said it ships new detection and prevention measures at a regular pace, so a quiet patch can still change things.

Cheating in ARK SA safely

ARK rewards knowing the world: where high-level creatures are, where rival tribe members sleep and who is online before a raid. ESP that shows creatures and players is worth far more here than aim.

Stay out of the mesh, since meshing is on the list of bans that cannot be appealed, alongside hacking. Under the Code of Conduct your tribemates break the rules too if they keep playing alongside a hacker. On an unofficial server, ask the owner how it is protected.
